Cúig
We
are delighted to welcome back Cúig, winners of the "Young Band Competition” at
the 2013 festival!
Cúig
are a young, fresh, new talent with an innovative sound to shake up the Irish
Trad scene! Despite their short time together, the band has shared the stage
with the famous Máirtín O’Connor Trio; ‘Triad’ with Donal Lunny, Pádraig Rynne
and Sylvain Barou; Dave Munnelly, Mick Conneely, Ryan Molloy and Beoga. In July 2013, Cúig travelled to ‘Les
Celti’Cimes’ festival in the French Alps playing support to international
headline act, Flook.
They
have also taken the stage at the renowned William Kennedy Piping Festival; the
North Atlantic Fiddle Convention; various Fleadhanna and other music festivals,
playing with an array of Ireland’s finest talent to great acclaim. Cúig’s performances on BBC Radio Ulster’s
‘Blas’ and ‘Folk Club’; BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ and most recently TG4’s ‘Fleadh
Live’ prove that the band displays skills and talents which defy their years. With a line-up of musicians who have achieved Provincial and All Ireland
success, Cúig are a band to look out for.
Niamh
Dunne (Beoga) commented, "New trad band Cúig, will, quite frankly,
knock your socks off! They have a fresh, unique and vibrant sound that most
bands take years to establish, and their individual and collective musicianship
belies their years. Talent hanging out of them! A truly brilliant trad
band."
