Gleann an Ulair Ceili Band
Gleann an Iolair (Glen of the Eagle) is the gaelic name for Glenullin, a small parish near Garvagh in Co. Derry. This beautiful glen is home to the Boylan family, who are well known throughout traditional music circles.
The family played for their first ceili in Derry City in 1986 with Denis Sweeney and have been supplying dance music at ceili's regularly since then. They were prompted to produce their first album ‘ The Derry Boat’ in response to many requests from the set dancing fraternity in 1998. They have travelled widely with their music to all corners of Ireland, Europe and the USA. Although the band’s musicians have changed slightly over the years, the core musicians of Maeve (piano accordion) and Ruairi (flute) make sure that the music hasn’t. They are joined by fiddle genius Kate O’Brien and nimble fingered Paul O’Donnell (piano) who play with them regularly.
